Who Wants Some Financial Advice? - Editor’s Note – the Shape of Money stopped providing financial advice in April 07

the Shape of Money gets all sorts of requests for financial advice, so we thought we'd outline some of the areas of financial expertise and help we offer.

the Shape of Money offers independent financial advice. We charge an hourly fee for that advice. The fee and scope of work are agreed at the outset.

Please note, however, that the Shape of Money is based in Wellington and while much advice and support can be offered by phone and email, some clients do prefer a face-to-face option and look for local advisers.

Investments

the Shape of Money will, based on your financial position, investment goals and risk profile, develop an investment plan to meet your personal needs. After implementation, the Shape of Money will monitor the portfolio and provide quarterly valuation reports. The plan will be reviewed on an annual basis and recommendations will be made based on changes to asset allocations, your financial position and needs.

A diversified portfolio will include investments in cash, fixed interest, property, Australasian and international shares. The investments will primarily be in managed funds, but some investments, when appropriate, will be made directly.

Retirement planning

It is difficult to know both how much we will need in retirement and how much we need to save to reach a savings target that will produce that desired level of after-tax retirement income. the Shape of Money can provide the support and advice to help you set a realistic target and to put in place a strategy that will help you achieve your goals.

Debt management

As debt levels have increased over the past few years, so has the need for some smart debt management techniques. Despite what your friendly bank manager or TV advertisement may say, consolidating your debt into a bigger mortgage may not be the best way forward.

the Shape of Money will provide independent advice to help you move forward, both to manage you debt and repayments, but also to advise you on the appropriate debt structure if required. If your situation is dire, for example you are unable to meet your repayments, we will advise you to contact the relevant community agency for their advice and support.

Budgeting support

A number of people get into a situation in which they need to get back to basics and do some budgeting. Regular budgeting is a habit which only the client can form, with patience and hard work.

the Shape of Money can provide the guidance, support and techniques necessary to creating a long-term budgeting habit.
